Dances of Universal Peace

About the Dances

The Dances of Universal Peace are simple, easy-to-learn movements and songs honoring spiritual traditions from around the world — heart-awakening circle dances dedicated to peace within and without.   They use sacred phrases, music, and movements from many traditions of the earth. The songs and movements are fully taught and the dances are accompanied by musicians. No experience is necessary.

The Dances of Universal Peace are meditative and uplifting group dances of easy-to-learn songs and movements representing religious and spiritual traditions around the world. They use sacred phrases, music, and movements from many traditions of the earth, including the traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Zoroastrianism, the Goddess, Celtic and Native American Traditions. The songs and movements are taught by a leader and the dances are accompanied by musicians. Some people attend for spiritual reasons, others to have a relaxing and meditative experience, others to simply sing and dance to simple song and movements in a group.

The dances are being taught all over the world and serve as a way of promoting tolerance and respect for different religious and spiritual traditions in countries around the world.

Anyone is welcome to attend the dances and no musical or dance experience is required.  Everyone is welcome to come to try them, drop in on and occasional basis, or attend regularly.  It’s possible to attend part or all of the evening and to dance some of the dances and sit out others.   No special attire is necessary although loose, comfortable clothing is recommended.  There is no fee; however a donation of $5 is suggested to help cover costs.  Donations beyond costs are used  to fund  scholarships for  Salem Dance Circle Participants to attend dance-related retreats.
